The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) was established in the year 1992 with an initial intake of 30 students. Creating demand and the needs of present software industries and now the current intake is increased to 120 students. The duration of the course, from 2020 admission, is two years (Four Semesters) and the curriculum is aimed at interspersing a wide spectrum of practice and knowledge in the computing domain in the latest and emerging technologies with inputs and active support from industry experts and strong Alumni. The faculty is diverse, committed, highly qualified experienced with Doctorates in various specializations. Quality education, blended with rich research experience along with hands-on teaching is provided to students.
The department has well-equipped laboratories with IT facilities. So far approximately more than 1300 students who graduated from the MCA department are well-placed in various National and Multinational companies. The department is responsible for producing top-grade software engineers with skill sets comparable to the best in the world.

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)
- To be successful in identifying, understanding, formulating, analyzing and solving variety of problems in the field of Computer Applications.
- To provide students various computing skills like the analysis, design and development of innovative software products to meet the industry needs.
- To motivate students to pursue lifelong learning and to do Collaborative research and computing professional scientists.
- To motivate students to communicate and function ethically, effectively in teams in multidisciplinary fields within the global, societal and environment context.
Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)
- Analyse, design, develop and optimize solutions in C++, Unix and Shell Programming, DBMS, JAVA, Dot Net platforms and Advanced Web Technologies.
- Apply concepts in core areas of computer science - Data structures, Database management systems, operating systems, computer Architecture and software engineering to solve technical issues.

- Difficult to train students from non-computer science backgrounds.
- Reduced placement opportunity due to market volatility.
- Difficult to up skill the students in the field of current technology within a short duration of time.

Dr Shankaragowda B B
Assoc.Prof & HOD
Dr.Shankaragowda B.B., working as Associate Professor and HOD, Department of Master of Computer Applications. He has 16 years of teaching experience and 9 years of research experience. He received his doctorate from Kuvempu University in 2019. His research interest includes Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things(IoT), Big data, Deep Learning and Data Science. He has published 17 research papers in referred journals, presented, and published research papers at various National and International conferences, and delivered special lectures on various occasions. He has conducted seminars and workshops in the department. He received the Best paper award for his research work. He was involved in the International Conference IEEE paper Reviewer and JNNCE Journal of Engineering & Management Paper Reviewer. He worked as BOE member of Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi during the year 2021-22. He was invited to technical talks in various institutes. He is a Life Member of ISTE, New Delhi. He is working as Secretary at BIET Co-operative Society, BIET, Davangere.

Classroom
Each Class room can accommodate 60 students. Classrooms is IT enabled and all classrooms are equipped with a standard array of presentation equipment that provides our faculty with the best multimedia tools for their instructional needs.
Department Library
Apart from the centralized library facility in the college, the department library is well stocked with books and magazines . It has more than 450 book titles for the benefit of the students. It also contains hard copies previous year university question papers and subject wise question banks for student references along with sufficient reading space for the students.
